What does good content marketing look like?
It is actually useful:
The content that you create should not only be engaging but should actually have a use. So, what use can you solve when creating content?
If there is a burning question that your audience has, make sure you write an in depth blog that actually ANSWERS the question – not just dances around the topic and then comes to a weak conclusion. Your audience clicked on the link because they want a definitive answer, not to hear you ramble on about your opinion on the topic to just sit on the fence at the end of it.
If there is some kind of action that you want people to take, whether that’s share the content, donate or even make a purchase on your site – make sure the content helps your audience take this action there and then. You don’t want them to get to the end of your content and then not know where to go next.
If you have created a tool, such as a calculator, online map or any of the millions of tools you can find online, ensure that these tools work across all devices and all browsers.
It is easily accessible and understood:
So, you have some content that has a use – now it needs to be readable and ensure that everyone is able to understand it. What are the best ways for you to be able to do that?
Font Size: It should be large enough for easy reading. For instance, increasing the font size on a blog can significantly improve readability, especially if readers have previously found the text hard to read.
Text and Background Colour: Choose colours that contrast well without straining the eyes. Avoid difficult combinations like green text on a white background.
Column Width: If a column is too wide, it becomes hard for readers to track from one line to the next. Optimal width ensures comfortable reading without losing place.
Leading: This refers to the vertical space between lines of text. It shouldn’t be too tight, allowing for easy visual separation of lines.
Use of Lists: Have you been able to follow along this list a little easier then if we put it in one chunk of text? Lists, both for structuring the entire article and within sections, enhance readability. They break information into digestible, easy-to-process segments.
Scannable Chunks: Break text into small, manageable chunks. This can be achieved through bullet lists, headings and subheadings, bold text, and pull quotes. It helps readers scan content quickly and retain information.
Clarity and Concision: Aim for clear and concise writing. Each sentence should add value without being overly verbose. Write in a natural, conversational tone, but with good grammar. Avoid jargon or complex language that might sound awkward if spoken.
It is findable:
Right, you have useful content and you have made sure that it is easily understood and accessible. Great!
But… Can people find it?
A great piece of content will usually have a great Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) structure implemented within it. But there is always more you can do to make sure that your content stands out among the rest.
Keyword Optimisation: Have you optimised your content so that it is aligned with the keyword that people are searching for? This will drastically increase your search findability
Technical SEO: Search Engines have 3 jobs – understand what the person is looking for, understand what the content on the page is and then pair the two up together. Have you ensured you have given all the relevant information to the search engines so that they understand the content on your page? If not you are stopping yourself from being shown to the right people. There is so much to cover here but as a starting point ensure you have a relevant H1 tag, Meta Title and Description and that your page has been indexed.
Easily found on site: You have done everything you can to make sure the content can be found by anyone searching for the keyword on Google/Bing/Yahoo etc. but can they find the page when they are actually on your site? By ensuring you have a good site structure it means people are able to find your great content without feeling like they want to rip their hair out.
It is memorable:
Great content will stay in the minds of people who read it, even after they are no longer looking at their screens. It should stick with the reader to make it more likely for them to go back and revisit it. But how do you make a piece of content memorable?
Answer the question: As stated in the ‘It is useful’ your content should be answering a burning question that people have. If you can create an amazing blog that fully answers the question and educates – you will be memorable.
Be unique: It’s pretty hard to be remembered if you are creating content that has just been copied from someone else. You need to stand out or you’ll just blend in with the rest.
Be Unconventional: So, you can just write a blog that answers the question, or you can provide a tool that helps people with a certain task – but how can you make it stand out more? Maybe you can create a video that goes over the points and is more engaging than just reading text? Maybe you have a chance to add some humour to the content and show a little bit of your brand’s personality?
Be quotable: If someone can condense your entire content into one phrase – it is easier to remember and is more likely to stick in the mind of the reader. However – you want people to remember YOU, not a cliche that you found online. Make sure your overall message shows off your brand and the message you are trying to tell.
It is sharable:
Now we are getting somewhere – so we have some great useful content that is easily read, easily findable and is memorable. Who wouldn’t want to share this information? To make sure that your content gets shared as much as possible it’s time to focus on the next two points:
People want to share: Would you want to share it? If you wouldn’t want to share it why do you expect anyone else to? Does it answer a burning question or something that everyone just NEEDS to know about?
It’s easy to share: Make it easy for them. By adding buttons at the end that mean in one quick click they can share the content with all their friends and family – they are going to be more likely to do it.
By creating a catchy headline and captivating image, more people are going to be intrigued by the content and be inclined to click and read through it. This will then lead to them sharing and the cycle continues.

Vendo helped me build my company website, which was well above and beyond my expectations as well as advising me how best to promote my painting and decorating business. I have complete faith in them and would highly recommend the Vendo team.Posted on Google Ray HowlettTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I was very sceptical about working with another company, having worked with several digital marketing agencies for many years that provided below-average service. So I just neglected the website. One of my clients mentioned that they were very busy with work and that they definitely attributed it to their new Digital Marketing company. That pricked my interest because I trusted my client, and if they were getting an excellent result, maybe that could also happen to me. What do I have to lose? I contacted Max, and we met at his office, and he took me through what they could do for my company. I left the meeting feeling, yes, I think this is the company. I have been working with Max and the team for over four months, and it's made a big difference to leads. The enquiries keep coming in at a level I've never seen before. They also took care of all the errors on the website, and it now runs as it should. I could go on and on. Max and Alfie know what they are doing, and if you are looking for a Digital Marketing Company and you're local (although I guess they can work from anywhere in the country), give Max a call. You will not be disappointed. Remember, SEO takes time to embed, but you will start seeing the results. Just trust the process.Posted on Google Jessica CavareeTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Absolutely outstanding guidance by Max. He reviewed and set pointers where we can improve on. I won’t hesitate to use max again in the future.Posted on Google Beth HallTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Would highly recommend.Posted on Google John Rose Eye CareTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I am very impressed with the service received from the team at Vendo - fantastic attention to detail, always meet deadlines and keep their word . They are experts at running Google campaigns and have consistently achieved a good ROI and driven more clients to the practice. I would highly recommend this team.
